Danny was a very keen footballer and cricketer before a motorbike accident left him paralysed from the chest down. Undeterred by his new life in a wheelchair, Danny began his athletics career in wheelchair racing, completing the Great North Run 3 times, and then moving into field events, specialising in the shot put.

3 times the British Wheelchair Athletics Association’s ‘Athlete of the Year’, Danny was selected for Team GB in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing and in the World Championships in New Zealand in 2011. Only a change in regulation by the world governing body took away the chance to compete in the London 2012 Paralympics, but their subsequent removal of Danny’s shot put event from the Rio 2016 Games has led to a new opportunity in the javelin.

We wish Danny well on his road to Rio ...
